Vice mayor;
If you have the chance, try to find more info regarding TESDA. The
mayor has the phone number and email of the Community Affairs
manager of Microsoft - she may be able to help you get in touch with
the TESDA people. I think your SB computer center falls nicely
within the program of TESDA.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)
There are more than 70,000 NGOs in the Philippines, and they provide an effective way to reach underserved communities throughout the country. This project will extend the capabilities of the existing TESDA centers, enabling them to train NGOs and underserved community residents on basic computer operation, Internet use, and initial technology skills. The project will also train current instructors of vocational courses (agriculture, fishery, automotive, etc.) who have limited or no knowledge of technology and who cannot afford to enroll in formal computer classes. The NGOs and trainers will pass on their knowledge of basic computing to the communities they serve as part of the train-the-trainers model. The goal is to train 1,000 NGO trainers in the first year. These NGOs will in turn be reaching out to a minimum of 50,000 people in a year. |

Dear Ka Noel;
I have been thinking for quite sometime and returning to our meeting
with the Microsoft people, I am able to see a different perspective.
It was hard then to see this at that time as I was so focused on our
own dreams and objectives. Remember Sam saying to me several times
that Paete was different. Unlike other places in the Philippines,
Paete is not, with honesty, underserved. That was Sam's point (He just
did not state it out clearly enough for me to understand at that time) -
There are people already helping the town of Paete while there are so
many places in the Philippines that are not receiving any help. I have
had another conversation with them and now I am making the decision to
no longer pursue Microsoft's Unlimited Potential Grant because there
are other programs in the Philippines that are in greater need of
Microsoft's support. Of course, PAETEch is still free to apply - if
the officers wish to do so on their own. |

Angel,
The 18 computers are now being distributed in
accordance with you recommendation:
> 5 - Ibaba
> 4 - Quinale
> 4 - Central
> 5 - Sangguniang Bayan
The Sangguniag Bayan will pass a resolution stating
that the 5 computers under the custody of the SB are
open to the public. Also, 3 A4tech webcam with built
in cameras are already with the 3 schools. Isa na lang
pala ang kailangang telon at nakita na yung sa PES. Sa
ibaba na lang ang wala pa. Walang mabili, yun daw
inorder 2 weeks ago ay nasa customs pa. I told Apple
Vicky na pwede naman niyang gamitin itong tilon ng
Municipio habang hindi pa dumadating yung inorder.
Hindi nakauwi si Raul noong Sabado kaya hintay ko pa
yung financial report ng Paetech.
The result of the fund raising of Paetech last
Saturday will be reported by Coun. Odette. (attn: Kon
Odette)
Regards,

Dear Angel,
Here is a picture of some students from PEQMNHS using the computers here in SB Internet Cafe!
Kuha lang ito kanina using the camera of my celfon.
Marami ng nagpupunta dito tuwing hapon. Mabuti naman! Para silang nakaupo sa karosa ano! _________________ Rojilyn "Mutuk" Quiachon Bagabaldo |

Vice-Mutuk:
All you guys are doing a helluva job in promoting Paete. The computer, even more powerful than TV, is our Windows to the world. I hope you will keep those windows open especially to the public. We haven't exhausted the wonders they can do! Let's keep on Computing! _________________ Virgil G. Madrinan

Hi Angel,
Good news! I have invited for a lunch meeting this coming Thursday here in SB no other than the Laguna Provincial Director of TESDA. My invitation was made and accepted just this morning over the phone thru our MSWD Lulu N. Madrigal. Rest assured that your above request will be thourougly discussed especially the training program for our out of school youth re: PLaSHBA's dream.
Thanks and regards,

This is good news indeed. I am very open to what TESDA has in mind and am willing to do my share. Good luck.
And vice mayor, thank you so much for being so active in this work. Yours is an inspiration for us here who could only rely on your excellent leadership and responsiveness. |
